R.W. Stephenson (Jody’s father) is a native Kansan who retired to Eureka Springs in 2006. He spent the first half of his professional life in education—first as a teacher/coach, then high school principal, finally superintendent of schools—all in his beloved state of Kansas. The second part of his life, he became an entrepreneur—owning motels in Kansas, Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma. He painted as a form of relaxation during his professional years, also teaching watercolor classes at his local church’s continuing education program. Since retirement, Richard has had more time to devote to his art—both watercolors and gourd art. He has exhibited in various shows around Eureka Springs as part of the May Festival of the Arts.
